Summary/Abstract: In the modern financial world the central bank enjoys respect and dignity. The current scientific development aims to show how important the supervisory policy of the Bulgarian National Bank is to ensure stability in our banking system on the one hand, and on the other hand to protect the money of depositors in commercial banks. In the years since the establishment of a two-tier banking system, which significantly changed the functions and role of our central bank examples of good and bad practices in terms of supervision carried out by the Bulgarian National Bank can be pointed out and accordingly their consequences can be seen. The new supervisory practices of our central bank, established after Bulgaria’s accession to the Single Supervisory Mechanism should contribute to banking stability and high confidence in the banking system.
