Summary/Abstract: The common European mentality reveals itself at various societal levels, as well as inside languages. There are identical or similar cores, the same roots that contributed to growing the tree model of languages. These elements were important in communication, as people share the same goals; due to better and faster ways of communication, they diversified and facilitated relationships among people. On the other hand, if language particularities did not exist, we couldn’t speak nowadays of diversity, national distinctiveness, unique styles. The universal and particular topic was the most discussed one in stylistics. Many questions appeared on researchers papers: Should stylistics deal with language facts as products of thinking or feelings? What is more important: the spoken communication or the written one ?What are the differences in the use of language for daily communication and for aesthetic purposes? Is there any difference between style and stylistics; for instance, if one refers to a novel, should one speak about ”the style of the novel” or about ”the stylistics of the novel”? Should one speak about individual stylistics referring to a certain author? Could one speak about branches of stylistics? Our paper presents some of the researchers` conclusions generated by the abovementioned interrogations as well as two particular theories in stylistics: of the Swiss Charles Bally and of the Romanian Tudor Vianu.
