Summary/Abstract: The European approach to artificial intelligence focuses on excellence and trust, aiming to boost research and industrial capacity while ensuring safety and fundamental rights. The European strategy on AI aims to transform the European Union into a global hub for AI, with an emphasis on the human factor and trust. This translates into the European approach to excellence and trust through concrete norms and actions. The study provides an overview of recent initiatives by the European Union to create a legal framework that ensures responsible and ethical development of AI, highlighting specific proposals such as the Artificial Intelligence Regulation. Challenges and opportunities presented by AI for the European economy and society are also identified, primarily concerns about the impact on the labor market, where automation could replace or transform certain jobs, and the potential for economic growth through innovation and increased efficiency. European concerns are also highlighted regarding the integration of AI into key sectors such as health, education, and transportation.
