Summary/Abstract: The author considers the little-studied question of the folklore distribution of tales about Solomon and David among the Southern Slavs. An analysis of the recorded folk tales in which the images of these two Biblical kings appear and a comparison with literary works widespread in the Slav milieu leads to the conclusions of a strong influence of the Apocrypha on folk prose. Apocryphal episodes and motifs are found in the tales about Solomon and David without any complete parallels of subject coming to light. Ideas familiar from literary sources are developed, usually in a subject unknown as a whole. Names and allegorical expressions appear, betraying a literary influence. In certain cases folkloric records make it possible to suppose the existence and spread of apocryphal works and variants which have not come down to us. Observations on the relationships between the Apocrypha about Solomon and David and folk prose extends knowledge about the international influence of the apocrypha on the cultural world of the people, and also on the volume apocryphal literature in the Balkans and in Bulgarian literature in general.
