Summary/Abstract: The present paper is concerned with the reconstructionof the linguistic vision of pigs in Spanishlanguage based on lexicographical data. Thecorpus used in the analysis contains lexicographicdefinitions, semantic connotations, idioms andproverbs, which make use of the lexeme cerdo(‘pig’) or its synonyms, i.e. chancho, cochino, guarro, puerco, marrano. The linguistic vision ofpigs reflected in Spanish turns out to be predominantlyinfluenced by negative connotations, re-lated not only to its physical features, but also toits behavior. The data also display the importanceof the anthropocentric attitude of man towardsthe surrounding world, which is based on theopposition between what is human and, therefore, good and what is animalistic and bad.
