Summary/Abstract: The paper discussed how local communities in Poland took in Ukrainianwar refugees in the period between March and May 2022. The arrival of large numbersof refugees within a short period caused a crisis situation requiring prompt interventionin those communities. The paper described this situation: the influx of refugees, theorganisation of crisis teams, actions taken by local actors, and factors determiningthe effectiveness and efficiency of the aid provided. The analysis focused on institutionalassistance and highlighted the role of local government and intangible community resources.The paper was based on a case study of an urban-rural municipality.
