Summary/Abstract: The role of women in the Church and in the liturgy has not been obvious for centuries and the recent motu proprio “Spritus Domini” by Pope Francis has livened up the discussion about it. In the following article the topic has been undertaken more widely, according to historical data, which allow to speak about women in liturgical life of the Church. The goal of the study is to show the specificity of woman’s vocation, with avoidance of the most fre- quent comparisons or evaluations of men and women in their social and religious activities. The ancient lay and patristic sources have become very influential upon forming interpreta- tion of the Gospel and Tradition of the Church with regard to the woman’s mission in liturgy. Thus the mission has been until now conditioned by the cultural and social premises and is still open for adaptation of christological and ecclesial aspects, which present woman’s mis- sion in mystical and theological dimensions. The Church’s Magisterium of the Council has introduced many new threads in this field, which are still not fully comprehended and accepted. The key to decode the role of women in liturgy seems to be the knowledge of their relation to Christ’s Mystery, which is entirely dis- closed by christocentric mariology. Therefore a conviction arises, that the dignity of woman and her adequate role in liturgy understood as the Mystery of Christ and Church depends on transparent and pure christological attitude of men, particularly the clergy.
