Summary/Abstract: This study is part a monograph on the folk poetry in the ritual practices of the Albanian traditional wedding. The marriage marks the passage of two individuals from a given state and position in another, new. Precisely, in this work it is aimed at analyzing the rite as a passage, transient process, dwelling on a determined moment during which this passage is more ivident; in the moment of the metting of the couple, “the locking in the nuptial room”. The observation of this moment has been lacking in our studies and is important to see the wedding in another profile, as a passage rite clearly determined by the theory of the passage rites (Rites de passage) of the well-known Van Gennep. In this sense are observed and analyzed the different phases of the rite determined according to the known gennepian triade separation – passage – admission. During these phases are determined the ritual actions, the objects of the rite, the ritualization of the individuals themselves, the connection poetry-rite and characteristics of the passage rite. This rite, as well as other rites of the traditional wedding implies its ceremonial accomplishment in early periods which come up late to the beginnings of the XXth century (based on ethnographic and folkloric materials of the Archive of Folklore and Ethnography of the Institute of Folk Culture) and it is not presented in a historical background, because the aim of the study is not the treatment of the evolution of the concepts on virginity or the male potency and neither the complicated phenomenology of the relations in couple in different social and temporal stratifications. These be the object of a treatment of sociological character. This study is occupied in a modest manner with a ritual period during which are outlined in a more accute manner the practical and aesthetic aim of the rite and of the accompanying poetry, the change of a status, from celibacy into marriage, the great transformation in which function is all the wedding ceremonial and the rites accomplished during its different days.
