Summary/Abstract: The paper analyzes the notion “freedom of religion” in the theoretical perspective regarding: a/ contemporary legal aspects of State-Church relations in Europe; b/ contemporary religion – community relations; c/ the internal aspect of religion; d/ the methodological principles of philosophical approach. The conclusions are made concerning the contemporary situation of freedom of religion in Europe, in post-communist countries, in conflict situations, etc. It appears that the freedom of confessions and religious pluralism are far from being widespread phenomen all over the world.
