Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to highlight the issue of addiction to digital technologies, which is a global plague. It has been shown, based on the analysis of existing data, that as the population grows, the number of users increases and, consequently, the number of addicts increases. Although addiction to digital technologies is behavioral in nature, there are clinical studies that indicate brain damage in addicts is the same as in the case of chemical addictions. This phenomenon is manifested by changing behavior and habits, including compliance with general social norms and changing life habits, often taking the form of giving up basic hygiene activities in favor of saving time for contact with electronics. As statistical data indicate, the youngest generation and youth are particularly vulnerable, because the dynamic development of technology is mainly aimed at this target group. The pioneers in research on this matter are the United States of America, which also leads in the statistics of the population addicted to electronics, therefore allocating colossal resources to both clinical research and preventive and therapeutic activities. Due to the dynamically developing addiction phenomenon in Poland, there was a need to compare the approach to the problem of both countries. Recommendations for preventive actions are presented in the form of a time regime for spending time with electronics, while comparing guidelines from overseas and domestic ones. There was also a review of available therapeutic methods, where both American and Polish standards indicate the success of the 12-step method as an effective treatment with a high guarantee of no recur- rence of the disease. The analysis of statistical data allowed to confirm the hypothesis that addiction to digital technologies not only shows a growing trend, but also has a destructive effect on the everyday life of people associated with the problem. It should be recognized that the coming years, and in particular the development of digital technologies, will only intensify this threat, therefore there is a justified need to highlight the subject matter in every form in order to reach the awareness of as many people as possible.
