Summary/Abstract: The article is a review and concerns the analysis of the activities of mu- nicipal authorities in Poland and Europe in the face of the energy crisis for the efficient functioning of public transport and maintaining the financial liquidity of local governments. The first part presents the causes of the energy crisis in Poland and Europe. In the next stage, several examples of actions of European local go- vernments in the context of the emergence of the crisis were presented. In the third part, the author analyzes the situation of Polish local governments during the energy crisis in the area of public transport operation. It was found that the energy cri- sis significantly affects the economic situation of urban public transport in Poland and Europe in many ways. The biggest burden on the budgets of local governments and carriers was a significant increase in fuel and electricity prices. This prompted most of the authorities to raise ticket prices, as well as to reduce the frequency of public transport.
