Summary/Abstract: This article examines the strategies of presenting magic as a scientific discipline and a field of knowledge in selected British informational books published in Poland (Natural History of Magic, Natural History of Fairies, Natural History of Mermaids, Magical Creatures and Mythical Beasts, The Dragon Ark: Join the Quest to Save the Rarest Dragon on Earth). Through the analysis of paratexts and selected linguistic devices (methods of argumentation and the construction of the author’s ethos), the study reveals the legitimating strategies employed to persuade readers of the truthfulness of the phenomena described and the scientific character of these publications. The final part of the article addresses the question of the ‘ethical’ aspect of presenting reality in this manner and discusses the authors’ attempts to distance themselves from the content presented in the books.
