Summary/Abstract: The phase of action is one of at least two temporal intervals, the total length of which constitutes the duration of a given state, process or activity. The lexical phase indexes in the Polish language include verbs (of primary and secondary phase), their derivatives (nouns and adjectives) and synonyms. The article is an attempt to describe various temporal phrases (adverbs, adverbial clauses and particles), which also contain information about the phase of action. From among the array of various phrases, the following ones have been selected and described further: początkowo [initially], na początek [for a start], na początku [at the beginning], z początku [at first], na koniec [finally], na końcu [at the end], w końcu [eventually, in the end], dalej [further], jeszcze [yet] and w dalszym ciągu [still]. On the basis of data obtained from the National Corpus of Polish Language, the following qualities of these phrases have been discussed: their collocation (with verbs, also with phase ones), contexts of their use, and their possible ambiguity resulting from those contexts. This presentation, in turn, at least partially completes the lexical field of phase indexes, most frequently limited to verbs.
