Summary/Abstract: Władysław Cholewa’s “Diary (Dziennik)” of the end of July andbeginning of August 1944, presented in this publication, contains thedescription of the activities of the underground provincial governor ofthat time. The occupation of Lublin, and, more broadly, of the Lublinprovince by the Red Army brought about crucial and significantevents in the organization of the life of Polish society in this area.The beginning of rule by the new, Moscow-installed Communistauthorities was a harbinger of the end (for many years ) of the Poles’dreams of a free Homeland.
