Opinions regarding the effectiveness of the implementation of the community police concept in order to prevent crime in the rural environment

Summary/Abstract: Community police is not only a philosophical approach, but also a significant organisational strategy, which strengthens the relationship between the police and the community and aims to solve problems related to crime and public security as a team. This model encourages active collaboration between the policemen and community inhabitants in order to identify, prevent and solve the specific problems of the locality, with the ultimate goal of improving the quality of life for all local residents.The implementation of the community police concept in the Republic of Moldova would have an essential role in preventing crime and victimization in the rural environment. In the context of preventing victimization in the rural environment, the community police would have the responsibility to collaborate with community members in identifying, analyzing, addressing and removing the risk factors that can determine crime and, implicitly, victimization.The authors propose to elucidate the concept of community police in the light of the argued opinions of various researchers in the field in order to justify and recognize the effectiveness of this mechanism that could essentially contribute to the reduction of crime and victimization in rural areas of the Republic of Moldova.Thus, through this research, it was possible to generalize the most relevant theoretical and practical implications from around the world with reference to the different modes of activity of the community police. The results obtained would help to develop this concept in the activity practices of the national police, which would determine a predominantly pro-active approach in anticipating and solving public security problems.
