Summary/Abstract: Equality between women and men is a fundamental value that ensures equal rights, responsibilities and opportunities, in family and professional terms, equal economic independence of women and men and equality in decision-making, thus contributing to the eradication of gender-based violence and improving the quality of life. It is unfortunate that, worldwide, gender inequality in relation to women is increasingly advancing, penetrating into all layers of society. Gender inequality, manifested through physical, sexual and emotional abuse, seriously affects the freedom of rural women. Violation of gender equality, has not only psychological and economic consequences, but unfortunately, it also has serious consequences on women’s health. Although, throughout the development of society, significant advances have been made in all fields of science to improve the quality of life, the origins of gender imbalance, especially in relation to women, who have remained rooted and historically influenced by the patriarchal structure. While several researchers have studied the issue of gender inequality in the last decade, they have not focused on a comprehensive analysis of this phenomenon in relation to rural development. At the current stage, modern society needs effective and well-founded measures to encourage respect for women’s rights and promote gender equality.
