About future cataloging of the Slavic Cyrillic printed collection of the Rila Monastery Library

Summary/Abstract: The paper concerns the specifics of the scientific description and cataloging of Slavic Cyrillic printed editions from the XVI–XVIII centuries preserved in the Library of Rila Monastery. This type of books demands different approaches when described in an electronic environment to meet the international standards and the needs of contemporary scholars. The paper also refers to the choice of a library automation system that will provide the necessary conditions to apply professional cataloging practices related to the descriptive bibliography of rare books. In order to complete the information background, the article includes general information about the project which initiates the cataloging of the Slavic printed collection.
