Summary/Abstract: Although it was achieved with some difficulties, the institutionalization of political science in Romania was a fairly rapid process. Coming after a period of propagandistic obscurity that compromised the idea of politics, they were confronted with a certain reticence of society towards this field. Therefore, their position within the education system was minor. However, the pace of development has accelerated, due to the training of specialists in Western institutions, the establishment of specialist journals, the translation of classics, the emergence of a local literature and international collaboration between researchers and institutions. Under the current conditions of the complexity of each society and of the international context, it is necessary to professionalize politics, a process that can be achieved primarily by these sciences. Although it might seem that interdisciplinarity and methodological pluralism are weaknesses or sources of ambiguity in political science, they are in fact its strengths. However, it is not these aspects that are holding political science back, but society's lack of interest in it, generated by ignorance. The only way to put political science where it should be is to set up a professional association to dialogue with the public authorities and champion the cause of political science.
