Summary/Abstract: In 1992, Slovak Television (STV), still the part of Czechoslovak Television (ČST), was to a large extent an autonomous media organization. It sought to fulfil the mission set out in the Public Service Broadcasting Act in 1991, building its own programme service called STV and contributing to the broadcast of the F1 (federal channel), where it produced around one third of the entire content. The study focuses on the fundamental moments of change that resulted from the split of the federal Czechoslovak Television and the creation of the independent Slovak Television. In many ways, this development had mirrored the hectic months in politics and society shortly before the peaceful but not entirely problem-free dissolution of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic. The paper studies the main normative, organizational, and programming challenges of STV at the turn of the year 1992 and in 1993. It undoubtedly included the division of property and also the spiritual, cultural heritage and licences of the ČST, which raises several questions till nowadays.
