Summary/Abstract: Television of nowadays is very different from what our grandparents could watch when staring at a magic box in 1950’s and 1960’s. On the other hand today’s television draws from the experience of programmig and schedulig traditions set in a very beginning of a new medium. This article focuses on the creation of new broadcaster in Slovakia in 1956, the third studio in Czechoslovakia ( Prague 1953, Ostrava 1955). The third in row but very special for this part of former Czechoslovakia. Bratislava was the regional capital, the seat of the slovak national authorities and bodies. The study examines the pionneer approaches towards the new medium and presents legislative, technical, personal and programming fundamentals of "Studio Bratislava" with an emphasis on news and current affairs programmes between 1956 and 1970. The archive documents revealed us adventurous the first D-Day of experimental broadcast. The study explains the importance of radio, documentary film and the theatre in forming of new medium, too. The public service model in Slovakia (Czechoslovakia) was close to the other television systems in post-war Europe, specially mandated and non-commercial. But the similarity ends here. The paper also reveals a strong difference between pluralistic and impartial television of western Europe and medium of communist propaganda behind the iron curtain.
