Summary/Abstract: One of the technical ways to improve the efficiency of road freight transport is to allow longer and heavier combinations to move as non-oversized vehicles. This concept formed the basis for the category of EMS combinations: 25.25 m, 60,000 kg, and then HCT-HCV and SEC, with 32–34-meter, 72-104-ton combi-vehicles. Another major challenge is the greening of these longer and heavier combinations, with the gradual introduction of gaseous fuels and electrified propulsion systems to provide additional environmental benefits. The main aim of this article is to analyze the introduction of gaseous fuels and electrified propulsion systems in 25.25 m EMS, HCT/HCV and SEC class road trains and discuss whether this has already some economic and utility justification. The article is essentially based on an analysis of the material from manufacturers of suitable green vehicles and the companies operating this kind of vehicles.
