THE PICTURE OF THE DIALECT RECORDED IN WORDS AND THEIR CULTURAL EXPONENTS

Summary/Abstract: This study deals with a cultural value of dialect viewed through the prism of lexis pertainingto the customs and culture related aspects of villagers’ popular consciousness as reflected in se-lected entries of The Dialect Dictionary of the Lublin Region, including wianuszki, jaskółcze ziele,południca, kołowrotek. The study is based on the material of spoken texts of villagers of the Lublinregion compiled in the years 1986–2022, with special emphasis placed on the texts’ identificationaland organizing role in the linguistic space of each part of the region. This segmentation of rural spaceis particularly important in the face of not only the disappearance of many names of folk designatain but also cultural and civilization changes. As a special communication phenomenon immersedin time and inscribed in the wider cultural context, words are a collective testimony to the waysthe village community is understood to function.
