Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the causes of mathematical difficulties in pupils of younger school age on the basis of own research conducted among teachers of four schools in the Bełchatów area.Among the causes playing the most significant role in the process of the emergence of mathematical difficulties, teachers most frequently mentioned lack of maturity or insufficient maturity for learning mathematics. The external cause playing the most significant role in the process of the emergence of mathematical difficulties was primarily considered by respondents to be neglect from the family environment.
