Summary/Abstract: The text examines cases in which the words are not interlinguistic homonyms (the so-called “false friends“), because they have partly coinciding meaning, but are rather intercultural homonyms because of the differences in certain cultural characteristics. The varied readings that the intercultural homonymy provokes are illustraed with examples from various literary works in which the things “soup“, “wine“, and “cloud“ function in a different way.
