Summary/Abstract: The article analyses the influence of French intellectual context of the 1920—1930-s. on the thoughts of German philosopher Walter Benjamin about social and political processes in Europe. The influence of the surreal-ism ideas as «the world of all-round and integral urgency» on the thoughts of the philosopher is stressed. Most obviously it was shown after the beginning of the social, political and economic crisis in Europe in the conditions of which the position of French intellectuals, who were trying to declare their special mission to protect the «supreme values» was represented by Benja-min as conformism
