Summary/Abstract: This article aims to offer a brief overview on how the Kosovo case is shaping the current relations between Russia and Serbia. It first shows that contrary to popular beliefs, the history of relations between the two countries must be understood correctly only through the prism of Russia’s great power interest. Nevertheless, the contemporary leaders of Serbia, aware of both public opinion surveys and the need for EU integration as the only way to bring prosperity, pursued a carefully balanced foreign policy based on good relations with both East and West. While Kosovo is one of the main coordinates of the contemporary Serb-Russian relations, Belgrade is fully aware that the Russian commitment in this case must not be taken for granted, as experience shows how Russia undermined the Serbian strategy of regaining the control of its former province by justifying her aggressive behaviour and breaches of international law in the cases of Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Ukraine, calling on a so-called Kosovo precedent.
