Summary/Abstract: A maintenance creditor should be able to obtain easily, in a Member State, a decision which will be automatically enforceable in another Member State without further formalities. In order to achieve this goal, it was advisable to create this Community instrument in matters relating to maintenance obligations bringing together provisions on jurisdiction, conflict of laws, recognition and enforceability, enforcement of judgments, legal aid and cooperation between Central Authorities.
