Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to present issues related to the education of refugee students from Ukraine in early childhood education in Poland. The context of the considerations is the teaching of Polish as a foreign language, which is something new in the case of teachersof younger grades of primary school. The text is theoretical but uses the latest open statistical data on wartime students with migration experience, showing the extent of the issues raised. An important part of the article is to indicate the Polish language teaching glottodidactic competences that teachers teaching Polish as a foreign/second language to students in grades I-III should have. It is an attempt to describe the didactic and substantive skills that, if properly used by the teacher, will help the student achieve language proficiency needed not only for peer contacts, but also for learning in Polish at the first and subsequent stages of education. Competences in the field of teaching Polish as a non-primary language code were developed based on two sources of information: as a result of trainings attended by early schoolteachers working with students with migration experience and personal didactic experience of the author of the article.
