Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the topic of formation of the human person, as expressed in post-Conciliar Church teachings, with reference to the world of media. The core point is the modern education crisis, whose dilemma dwells within the modern mentality and culture of serving in doubt the value of the human person and relativizing the notion of truth and goodness. Based on recent experience, we can see how serious difficulties occur in establishing interpersonal communication between human subjects, especially within families. This is often due to the addiction to new social media, which – in the case of the youngest – is starting to replace parents. According to the post-Conciliar Church’s teaching, the modern world of media should be positively managed with the service of evangelization and education in the spirit of Christ’s Gospel. The Church treats the “digital continent” not only as a tool, but also as a living environment in which to build the unity of the human community. In the digital age, however, there will be no real “culture of encounter” or “mysticism of meeting” if the central role played by the person with one’s human dignity and capacity of transcendence is ignored. Unfortunately, today there are serious threats to human communication that destroy the network of interpersonal relationships. In particular, the unfortunate “fake news” spreading disinformation, by discrediting others, divides people and most often leads to hatred. The real cure for this disease is the education for the truth in love, which in practice means an education for discernment and critical assessment of reality.
