Summary/Abstract: Many researchers have highlighted the positive impact that songs have on the learning process in general and especially on language learning. Studies of motivational psychology and didactics for the teaching of languages have demonstrated the importance of intrinsic motivation correlated with pleasure and curiosity for favoring a deep and lasting learning process. There is no language acquisition without motivation that comes from three sources: pleasure, need and duty. All language teachers know that the usual reaction of students when listening to a song is sheer pleasure. From a neuro-linguistic point of view, songs are extremely useful for language learning because they activate both hemispheres of the brain by exposing the person to an input containing both music and words, in an alternating way, that is, in a global and analytical way. A song triggers a vast array of emotions and it has been scientifically proven that music has positive effects on learning, facilitating memorization; for this reason, certain genres of music are used at various stages of learning.
