Summary/Abstract: I’m going to tell you something unusual. You always have the impression that nothing fateful ever happens to you, and that nothing fateful ever happens to your friends. So I was pretty well astounded when Karlo came – and he was perhaps my best friend – and said he had killed someone. The day was hot, and I had had the windows curtained from the early morning. The room was in half darkness. He stood for a few seconds, he sat down without being able to see anything, breathed out, and told me. “You’re joking,” I said. “No, I’m afraid not.” The room was quite usual, square, just as it had been a bit before. I could reach out for any of the things and there was no treason why anything should be out of order. It was just that my guts were overcome with fits of horror.
