On the Comparative Study of Folk Poetry

Summary/Abstract: Contacts between folk poetry and the literature of other nations which is the field of comparative literature - grow out of the following situations: the written poetry of some nation comes to be widely known through the medium of individuals and of the written word and then becomes the folk poetry of some other nation, we include here the spread of religious songs and the organized poliey of a conquering nation which aims to de-nationalize a certain region: through multilingual poet-interpreters who travel from country to country (oral contact); and as a result of the common life of social groups speaking different languages (oral contact).
