Summary/Abstract: The Constitution of the Republic of Poland states that access to public education is not only compulsory but also free. In practice, however, it seems apparent – parents in the process of educating their children face a large number of various types of additional contributions, fees or additional costs related to education. Not being aware of which of them are compulsory and which are not, they very often pay all required contributions. This study will analyze the most common types of fees required from parents in connection with a child’s education and the legal nature of their affirmation. The journalistic sources as well as the provisions of national and international law will be analyzed, drawing interpretations of the provisions from national jurisprudence and commentaries.
