Summary/Abstract: The second novel of the "Trilogy of Exile" is "The Knight of Resignation" written in 1959 and published in 1960. In Romania, the novel will see the light of day in 1991.The action refers to an imaginary twelfth century but in reality we are talking about the entire Romanian territory, often threatened over the centuries by different powers. The main actor of the narrative, Prince Radu Negru, forced by an opposing destiny, embarks on a journey to the western realm of the knights, Venice, hoping to save his people from the Ottoman plague. The journey has initiating desires and connects two different spaces: the closed one, of the Wallachian forest, protective, and the open one of Venice, indifferent. Descended from a place of spiritual values, the Wallachian Prince descends into a world where material values dictate human relationships. Following this incursion, in a land that has fallen prey to deception, debauchery and material, a redistribution of values takes place in Radu Negru's being. Direct contact with the West reveals another reality: knowledge, the opening of truly important values, characterizes the remote space of the native Forest, and the closure, limitation and obstruction characterize the wonderful space of Venice.
