Summary/Abstract: The article considers some historical aspects in the evolution of intensive care – development of ventilators for mechanical ventilation, development in the modes of ventilation, development of cardiopulmonary and cerebral resuscitation, contemporary technology development in intensive care medicine, the coming and development of intensive care units. The intensive care medicine is dynamical branch of contemporary medicine, combines the last achievements of medical science and technology. The intensive care units are managed by multidisciplinary team, who realizes cardiopulmonary and cerebral resuscitation for critical ill patients, treatment of acute respiratory failure, shock, treatment of acute disturbances in kidney function, liver, coagulation, patients in sepsis, multiple organ failure syndrome, and other critical conditions.
