Summary/Abstract: The article deals with a condition associated with the absence of papillary terrain on the fingers, palms and soles, called adermatoglyphia. Adermatoglyphia can be congenital or acquired. Congenital adermatoglyphia is caused by mutations in the SMARCAD1 gene. Acquired adermatoglyphia occurs more often than congenital, and many of the cases appear as a result of chemotherapy. The article deals with the problems associated with adermatoglyphia, while also pointing out the forensic consequences and problems with dactyloscopic identification of individuals affected by this condition.
