Summary/Abstract: The present paper analyzes the concept of identity in Kazuo Ishiguro’s The Unconsoled, one of the most innovative and controversial works that the Nobel prize winning author has written. Identity fails to be communicated in a coherent way in postmodernism and it is seen as deeply fragmented and schizoid. Therefore, communication is equally problematic, as individuals attempt to define themselves through the others and fail to meet each other halfway. Ishiguro’s novel reflects postmodern (mis)communication via the speeches and scenarios that the characters construct.
