Local action groups as a manifestation of social capital activity

Summary/Abstract: Intensification of agricultural production caused the lack of local rural development of the European Union. The Leader Community Initiative, which was introduced in the early nineties, was an attempt to alleviate these problems. The program is based on the innovative approach of engaging rural communities in actions to develop areas inhabited by them. Local Action Groups as a threesector agreement between public, private and social sector were to assess the potential for rural development and implement local development strategies in these areas.
