Summary/Abstract: Active leisure in Poland today is a mass process. This is due to the widespread access to specialised sports equipment and the wide and varied range of services on offer. One of the fastest growing activities are winter sports, which has resulted in the rapid development of ski infrastructure mainly in mountain areas. In addition to sports services, ski resorts are also developing catering and hotel services. On the basis of the development of ski stations in Małopolska, an analysis of their impact on local economic development was carried out. Ski resorts have the strongest impact on economic development in the case of rural areas, where they are often the main driving force for the development of entrepreneurship in the area. The density of ski resort locations and their ‘openness’ to external partners best activates the local labour market and contributes to an increase in the number of businesses. The best example is Białka Tatrzańska, where the cooperation of local economic entities has led to the promotion of this resort to the status of the winter capital of Poland, outclassing for example Zakopane.
