Summary/Abstract: Full member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, professor, habilitated doctor Yuri Stepanova, whose list of scientific works includes both large-scale books and shorter articles on general linguistics, semiotics, culture and Indo-European studies, Romance studies and Baltic studies, is one of the most famous people in Moscow ( more precisely, apparently, it should be said — a representative of the Russian) linguistic school. He knows very well the traditions of the famous Russian philology of this school established in the 19th and 20th centuries, he himself has been fruitfully expanding and renewing them for several decades, not to mention the ones that are very dear to us - from the time of Filip Fortunatos until now, the unbroken tradition of devoting space to the Lithuanian language in his research . J. Stepanov's very diverse interests as a scientist formed his theoretical observation system, which, based on specific observations of the structure and functioning of language, is based on "idea filiation (receptivity)* and "idea metamorphism™. The ``new realism'' direction of language philosophy, which has gained clear contours in Russia relatively recently, is most closely related to the name of its founder, J. Stepanov.
