Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to examine the issues of the Lithuanian phonological school that are disput-able. The accents of the vowels and the diphthongs ie, uo may be treated as a phenomenon of the phonetics that potentially can have a supplementary phonological value. The former short vowels at the end of a word of the dialect of the North Panevėžiškiai were dropped and in their place no "murmuring vowel" was pro-nounced. Research provides more reasons to view the diphthongs ie and uo as the combinations of two phonemes.
