Summary/Abstract: Recent research has shown that the quality of teachers is the main factor for students’ academic achievements. Several successive years of exceptionally high level of teaching can catch up with the gaps in the education of students in disadvantaged position. A key role for training students well is to build a system of mentorship as an integral part of the young pedagogue’s adaptation to the job, and thus to foster their improvement and professional development. Mentorship must provide practical and theoretical support at the work place while helping the new teacher get used to their professional duties and motivating them to grow professionally. In this article we have presented the goals of policies for effective teachers and have discussed how mentorship leads to their implementation.
