Summary/Abstract: Numerous research studies indicate that parental divorce is associated with problems of stress, anxiety, low self-esteem, in general with a lower level of well-being in children's lives, even becoming a public health problem (Glick, Lin, 1986; Hetherington, Cox, Cox, 1985; Shaw, 1991; Wallerstein, Kelly, 1996; Vezzetti, 2016; Sbarra, Coan, 2017). Therefore, family dissolution constitutes a major transition for both parents and children, bringing along changes on all levels of life, emotional, economic, social, etc. (Sbarra, Hasselmo, Bourassa, 2015). In this article we carry out a review of the specialized literature from the last 10 years; selected articles from Psych Info and Web of Knowledge databases were identified using the following keywords: divorce, parenting, effects of divorce. The purpose of this review was to summarize the key findings of empirical studies that have investigated the effects of divorce on children (EDC). The specific objectives of this review are (a) highlighting the effects that family dissolution through divorce has on children; (b) identification of the main research directions/ thematic categories addressed in the topic of divorce; (c) creating a synthetic framework of the results obtained in order to facilitate future suggestions for action or intervention.
