Summary/Abstract: The article describes the basic tenets of the Moscow ethno-linguistic school. The basis of the ethno-linguistic method of studying of the Slavic dialects is the idea of a dialect as linguistic and cultural phenomena. Terminological lexicon of traditional culture is in the center of ethno-linguistic studies of the dialects. During the field investigations of dialect vocabulary discoverer focuses on extra-linguistic information, i. e. records not only the word, but the entire cultural context of its operation. Ethno-linguistic method of area studies gives conclusive results in the researching of both mono-ethnic regions, and mixed parts of the Balkans and Carpathians.
