Summary/Abstract: The report briefly presents the role and place of transport psychology and examines its application in relation to the assessment of psychological fitness to drive. The paper describes the criteria for evaluation of the psychological aptitude to drive in Austria, Germany, Hungary, Portugal, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria and points out the groups of drivers who are subject to such an assessment. The data are compared and analyzed according to the studied parameters and the similarities and differences in the countries are outlined. In conclusion, the report stresses the importance of the psychological assessment of fitness for safe driving behaviour.
