Summary/Abstract: The deportation of inhabitants was one of the methods often used by the communist government to annihilate the development or possible outbreak of a social resistance movement against the policy of the new regime. And displacement also had another major advantage: the property of those moved away by force was taken over by the state. In the case of the Banat and Oltenia population, the displacements of June 1951 were determined both by political and by economic factors: on the one hand, they had to do with the area neighboring the border with Yugoslavia, the country where the opposition to the Soviet model of communism was open; on the other hand, Banat was a region with well-to-do peasants, who naturally opposes collectivization.
