Summary/Abstract: The first postwar years meant to Europe the beginning of its division into two opposite political-military blocs. U.S.S.R. imposed its domination over the states in Central and Eastern Europe on a political, military and economic plane. The perpetuation of this situation called for counteracting the Western influences by setting up international organizations likely to institutionalize the Soviet supremacy. Cominform (1947), Comecon (1949) and the Warsaw Treaty (1955) served this purpose.
