Summary/Abstract: This article will describe the activities of the School of Polish Language and Culture in Wanda, Argentina, and its impact on the status of Polish language in the Polish community. Historical, political, social and cultural contexts are taken into consideration and they will be the starting point for the description of the present and current status of Polish language among the descendants of Polish emigrants. In the characterization of Polish language the following terms were used: heritage language, foreign language. The research shows that Polish in the generation of emigrants’ children has the status of a heritage language, while in later generations it functions as a foreign language. A significant influence of the School of Polish Language and Culture on the improvement of language competence and interest in the country of ancestors was demonstrated.
