Summary/Abstract: Touch traces belong to one of the most difficult materials to analyze in forensic genetics, which is due to the very small amount of analyzable molecules contained in them. Although they contain cells derived from the surface of the human body, the DNA in these cells is naturally fragmented. We summarize the experiences published so far with the genetic analysis of touch traces, which often do not provide a full DNA profile suitable for individual identification in the evidence process. However, the newly developing scientific field of olfactronics offers the potential to obtain additional information from these traces. However, touch traces represent extremely variable material, so the success of genetic analysis cannot always be guaranteed. Simultaneous olfactronic analysis can then provide important operational information regarding the group characteristics of the trace leaver.
