Summary/Abstract: Objectivity in its broadest sense is one of the fundamental and generally accepted principles of journalism ethics. It has become an integral part of professional standards as a result of historic and economic conditions in the development of the press. When applied in practice, it invokes new topics of debate, such as the limits of objective reporting and objective evaluation of journalists’ work by regulatory bodies. This article refers to some of the current journalism theory studies that deal with the definitions and research methods of the ethical principles of impartiality, balance, and objectivity. Theoretical perspectives are confronted with debates on contemporary issues in the journalism practice of Slovak media and with the decisions of the Print-Digital Council of the Slovak Republic between 2018 and 2022.
